How it works

What is diapason?

A shared radio: one sound on every phone and speaker in the room, all on the same beat.

Listen

Enter the station's 6-character code (or scan the DJ's QR): sound starts on the Join tap. Keep the screen on.

Private station

A private station doesn't show on the home page; only people with the code (or the password if you set one) can join.

Broadcast

Pick a mode: link/playlist (YouTube, SoundCloud…), microphone, a tab's audio (Chrome desktop), or Spotify Connect (same Wi-Fi).

The standby screen

When nothing is broadcasting, your radio doesn't die: listeners see a test pattern, like a TV channel waiting for its show, with a very soft tone (or silence, your call in the ⋯ menu). The station stays open; your set and position wait for you.

The sync

On joining, the Wave sweeps while every phone tunes in; when it breathes, everyone hears the same instant.

Governance

the DJ decides · the most voted track plays next (and skips at the vote threshold) · accredited listeners add to the queue.

Frequent questions

Can I use Bluetooth or wired speakers?

Yes, that is the whole point. Plug each phone into a speaker, Bluetooth or wired, and diapason keeps them all in sync. A handful of small speakers fills the room as one big system, with no echo between them.

No sound on iPhone?

Safari needs a gesture: tap Listen again. Keep the screen on, the sync follows.

How much data does it use?

About an audio stream's worth: comparable to web radio. Wi-Fi recommended for hours-long sessions.

Why a slight delay behind the DJ?

diapason waits a heartbeat so every phone and speaker lands on the exact same instant. That tiny delay is what keeps them together instead of echoing.

Private station: who sees what?

A private station is never listed or suggested. With a password, joining requires it; without, only the code opens it.

How do I cast from Spotify?

Pick “diapason” in Spotify's device list (Connect). Any other service: broadcast a link or your device's audio.
